Record Setter - With an assist in tonight's game, Royals' veteran Tyler Soy tied the Victoria record for most career assists with 147. The previous mark was set by former Royal Jack Walker who totaled 147 helpers over his 318-game career. The franchise record belongs to Victoria and Chilliwack Bruin alumnus Brandon Magee who both recorded 151 career assists through 318 career WHL contests.
Away at the Worlds - Victoria's Igor Martynov and Prince George's Vladislav Mikhalchuk are both currently representing their home country of Belarus at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Buffalo, NY. Royals' Assistant Coach J.F. Best is serving as a consultant in Performance Analysis for Team Denmark.
Powerplay Specialist - Victoria forward Matthew Phillips scored his 39th career powerplay goal in tonight's game and passed Brandon Magee (38) for the most career powerplay goals in a Royals' uniform. The franchise record is held by former Chilliwack Bruin Ryan Howse, who registered 47 powerplay goals in his WHL career.
Fresh Faces - The Royals announced a pair of trades today as forward Jared Legien was sent to the Regina Pats in exchange for forward Braydon Buziak and a conditional draft pick. Victoria also acquired forward Jeff De Wit from the Kootenay ICE in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft.
Second Half - Tonight's game marked the start of the second half of the regular season. The club posted a record of 20-13-3-0 in the first 36 games this season, which includes a home record of 11-4-1-0.
Staying Hot - Multiple Royals' skaters extended their point streaks in tonight's game. Tyler Soy has recorded 10 points (3g-7a) over six consecutive games, Dante Hannoun has seven points (1g-6a) in five straight contests and Matthew Phillips has marked five points (2g-3a) in three consecutive games.
Tomorrow Night - The Royals and Cougars are back in action tomorrow night at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre as they square off at 7:05 p.m.
