Kelowna Rockets News Release
The Kelowna Rockets prepare for a two game weekend against two divisional rivals starting tomorrow night in Kamloops in a Wednesday night rematch.
Coming off of a 2-1 shootout victory over the Kamloops Blazers yesterday, Assistant Coach Travis Crickard says there are a few minor adjustments to be made to continue success on Friday night in Kamloops, and then on Saturday night when the Rockets host the Victoria Royals.
"We need to shoot the puck more, hit the net on the power play, work harder on the forecheck, and get engaged as a unit when taking faceoff's," Crickard said. "Every game against a divisional opponent is a big game."
The Rockets and Blazers met three times already this season with Kelowna winning all three. The Rockets opened the season with back-to-back wins over the Blazers. Kelowna won 6-2 at Prospera Place before winning 5-1 in Kamloops the following night. They met again last night and Kelowna took that one 2-1 in a shootout.
On Saturday the Rockets host the Victoria Royals for their fourth meeting of the season. The Rockets and Royals met on October 4th at Prospera Place when Victoria won 8-3. The next meeting was on November 3rd when Kelowna beat the Royals 4-2 in Victoria, but the Royals won 4-2 the next night in the rematch.
The Rockets enter Friday night with a record of 21-11-2-0 that gives them 45 points and sole possession of first place in the B.C. Division. The Blazers enter Friday night with a 16-17-0-2 record giving them 34 points and placing them in fourth in the division. The Royals play on Thursday night against the Prince George Cougars, but entering that game they have a record of 20-14-3-0 giving them 43 points and placing them in second in the division.
Kelowna will be without Rockets Captain Cal Foote and Rockets Assistant Captain Dillon Dube as they are in Buffalo, NY taking part in the World Junior Championships for Team Canada. With Dube captaining the squad, they are currently 2-0-0-0 in round robin play after defeating Slovakia 6-0 on Wednesday. They play again on Friday at 12:00pm PST facing off against the United States.
Puck drop on Friday night in Kamloops is at 7:00pm.
Puck drop on Saturday night at Prospera Place is at 7:05pm.
Tickets are available for Rockets home games through selectyourtickets.com, at the Prospera Place box office or by phone at 250-762-5050.
