Prince Albert Raiders News Release

Prince Albert, SK - The Prince Albert Raiders (13-16-5-2) jumped out to a first-period lead, but they were unable to hold off the Saskatoon Blades (17-17-2-1) in a 6-4 loss at the Art Hauser Centre on Thursday night.

The Raiders opened the scoring with a power-play goal. With Curtis Miske screening in front, the Raiders captain and Cole Fonstad both got whacks at a puck around Nolan Maier. The puck ended up on Parker Kelly's stick and the Ottawa Senators signee made no mistake in making it 1-0. Four minutes later, Josh Paterson tied the game with his 14th of the year.

Late in the period, the Raiders added two more goals to take a 3-1 lead. With 3:33 remaining, Eric Pearce redirected Spencer Moe's shot into the net for his third goal of the year. About two minutes later, Carson Miller toe dragged the puck and wired it past Maier for his first of the campaign.

In the second period, the Blades battled back to tie the game. At the 4:12 mark, Chase Wouters converted on an odd-man rush to bring Saskatoon back within one. Late in the frame, Paterson scored his second goal of the night to make it a 3-3 game.

The Blades extended their lead early in the third period. Paterson notched his hat-trick goal at the 3:28 mark of the final frame when he slid the puck through Ian Scott. Saskatoon made it a two-goal game when Braylon Shmyr snapped it over a sprawling Scott, putting the Blades ahead 5-3.

Brett Leason got the Raiders back within one with 1:42 to play. He got the puck following an offensive zone faceoff and beat Maier from the slot to make it 5-4. However, about a minute later, Shmyr forced a turnover in the Raiders' end and scored into an empty net.

Scott made 33 saves in a losing effort for the Raiders. At the other end, Maier turned aside 38 Raider shots to pick up the win.

Up next for the Raiders is a date with the Memorial Cup host Regina Pats on Saturday night at the Art Hauser Centre. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
