
Royals Clip Americans in Shootout

Kennewick, WA- The Victoria Royals prevailed 5-4 in a shootout against the Tri-City Americans on Friday night as both teams combined for five special teams' goals throughout the contest.
The Royals' Dante Hannoun scored the shootout winner in the fourth round to secure the victory for the visiting team. Victoria received shorthanded goals from Tyler Soy and Regan Nagy and a powerplay marker from Vladimir Bobylev in the first period. Bobylev scored his second of the game midway through the middle frame to knot the game at 4-4.
The Americans' Tyler Sandhu scored shorthanded in the opening 20 minutes, while Parker Wotherspoon added a powerplay goal in the second stanza. Tri-City's other markers were registered by Brendan O'Reilly and Nolan Yaremko in the second period.
With the win, Victoria has won seven consecutive games dating back to January 20th against the Medicine Hat Tigers. The Royals have moved to within two points of the Kelowna Rockets for first place in the Western Conference.
Victoria netminder Coleman Vollrath started the contest and stopped eight of the 12 shots he faced, before being replaced by Griffen Outhouse five minutes into the second period. Outhouse stopped all 16 shots he faced in relief. The Americans opted for Evan Sarthou in net, who made four saves on seven shots in the first period. Nicholas Sanders got the nod in relief to start the middle frame and made 19 saves on the 20 shots directed at him.
Victoria went 1/616.7% on the powerplay, while Tri-City held a mark of 1/520.0% on the man-advantage.
The Royals will continue their road trip tomorrow night when they take on the Portland Winterhawks with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
Victoria returns home for a Family Day match-up on Monday, February 8th against the U.S Division leading Everett Silvertips.
