Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - Matt Fonteyne and Patrick Bajkov each earned a goal and added two assists, helping lead the Everett Silvertips to a wire-to-wire 4-3 victory over the Kamloops Blazers, before 4,611 fans at XFINITY Arena in WHL action on Friday night.
Persevering through the loss of Remi Laurencelle (final game of a three game suspension) and Carson Stadnyk (injury), their top two scorers, the Silvertips posted their 11th consecutive victory over Kamloops and extended their lead to seven points over Seattle for first place in the U.S. Division, with 21 games remaining, after Portland defeated the Thunderbirds, 2-1 at Moda Center tonight.
The Silvertips built a 3-0 lead and helped Carter Hart earn his league-leading 30th win on 27 saves.
Before the Tips grabbed a 1-0 lead, Hart stole the show with a show stopping save on Matt Revel in the first three minutes, sliding post-to-post to rob the Kamloops forward with a highlight-reel glove save on Revel's wrister from the right circle, ticketed for under the crossbar.
Winkler put the Tips on top, 1-0 on a delayed penalty and with a sixth attacker on the ice. The Silvertips were able to hem Kamloops in the offensive zone for 45 seconds and Cole MacDonald took a Kevin Davis cross-ice feed, stationed at the left side. MacDonald drove wide and his wrap-around bid deflected off traffic, onto Winkler's stick at the crease with 12:42 elapsed.
Just 49 seconds into the second period, Bajkov crashed the net and deflected Dawson Leedahl's pass from the left corner through Dylan Ferguson's five-hole for a 2-0 lead and Leedahl finished a backhander at 2:41 for a 3-0 bulge. The Silvertips captain, fashioning the 100th point of his WHL career, gained zone entry with speed and converted a one-touch exchange between Fonteyne and Bajkov with a backhanded deke on Ferguson's glove.
Kamloops got on the board with 2:31 left in the period on Jake Kryski's poke at a loose puck in the crease, but the Silvertips built their lead back to three at 9:47 of the third period when Fonteyne slammed a one-timer past Ferguson from between the circles, set up by Bajkov and Millar.
Devon Sideroff singlehandedly led Kamloops' late rally with his first of back-to-back power-play goals, first at 15:26 on a wrister through traffic from the left circle, then with 36 seconds left in regulation on a six-on-four situation when his one-timer snuck past Hart's blocker.
The Silvertips had to maneuver away from last-second danger on a hooking penalty to Bajkov, but prevented any further threats from reaching the net and won their 16th game at home.
Ferguson made 28 saves to take the loss.
