It was Hockey Day in Canada Saturday and with the iconic Don Cherry and Ron MacLean in Kamloops, BC for the celebration, Edmonton Oil Kings goaltender Patrick Dea put on a clinic stopping all 24 shots he faced for his first career WHL shutout on route to a 4-0 win.

Ben Carroll lead the way with two goals and an assist for Edmonton and Aaron Irving had a pair of helpers in the win. But it was the St. Albert, AB native, Dea, who stole the show evening his record to 14-14-3-1.

"The guys battled hard," said Dea. "First period was a bit rough but second and third we got better. Especially late with the 5-on-3 penalty kill. I was happy to get my first shutout and owe a lot to my teammates for sure. It was an all-round team effort."

Dario Meyer opened things up for the Oil Kings snapping home his 9th of the season past Blazers goaltender Connor Ingram. Brandon Baddock and Carroll got the assists.

Brett Pollock recorded his 20th goal of the year when he went shelf on Ingram on a partial breakaway in the second period. Lane Bauer picked up the helper.

Halfway through the third while on the man advantage Carroll scored his third on the year, and second in two games, when he leaned into a rocket of a slapshot that went off the inside bar of the net and back out again. However the officials spotted it and went upstairs where they confirmed the goal was good. Caroll then added to his scoring prowess clearing the puck while shorthanded 6-on-3 as Ingram was pulled for the extra attacker. He banked it off the boards and it rolled right into the empty net sealing the win for the Oil Kings.

The veteran Carroll came into this week with 14 points (1G, 13A). The 6'0, 190-pound blueliner collected six points in the last two games and now has four goals and 16 assists for 20 points on the season.

The victory puts Edmonton's record at 23-23-6-1 for 53 points; 8th best in the Eastern Conference tied with the Regina Pats, who have a game in hand. The Oil Kings continue west on their four game road trip facing off against the Vancouver Giants Monday afternoon at 3pm.
