Royals Blanked By Devils, 1-0
November 26, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals (5-11-1= 11; 6th North Division) of the ECHL were held off the scoreboard for the first time this season by the Trenton Devils, who won 1-0, at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. Veteran Jim Henkel scored the lone goal of the game, while the Devils were on the power play in the latter stage of the second period. Devils' goaltender Gerald Coleman (win, 3-1-0; 29/29) was perfect in his debut performance for Trenton; Danny Taylor (loss, 3-10-1; 31/32) sustained another hard luck loss. The Royals were blanked on six chances with the power play, including two that came in the latter stages of the third period. Trenton's power play goal came on their third of what were a total of four chances with the man advantage.
After a hard fought but scoreless first half of the game, the Devils broke through at the 14:20 mark of the second when Henkel took a shot from low on the right wing side that somehow slipped through Taylor and across the goal line for his second goal of the year. The Royals continued their consistent and hard play from that point forward, but were never really able to muster the type of chance that would have been required to beat Coleman, who looked poised and in control throughout the entire game.
The Royals return to the Sovereign Center on Friday, November 28 (7:05 pm), when the Florida Everblades make their first regular season appearance ever at the Sovereign Center. Friday's game will be broadcast live on the Royals Radio Network Presented by Transmissions by Arbogast (True Oldies WRAW 1340 am in Reading; and The Ticket WLAN 1390 am in Lancaster), as well as on the internet via webcast hosted by Sportsjuice.com, which can be accessed through the Royals website.
