Brockton Rox News Release

The Brockton Rox (11-2) completed a four-game sweep of the Worcester Tornadoes (6-8) with a 4-2 victory on Sunday afternoon.

The Rox got the first run of the game in the top of the third inning. Matt Cucurullo singled with two outs and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Eugene Julien followed with a single scoring Cucurullo and putting Brockton in front, 1-0.

Jake Daubert singled in the fourth inning to tie his own Rox franchise record by hitting in his 18th consecutive game. Daubert's 18-game streak is tied with John Lindsey and Zach Smithlin, both of New Jersey, for the longest Can-Am League streak this season.

In the sixth inning, Guye Senjem led off with a walk and advanced to third on Craig Lewis' double. After Brian Jones was intentionally walked, Daubert grounded into a fielders choice to plate Senjem and extend the Rox lead, 2-0.

The Rox added a third run in the seventh. Brad Rosenblat, who replaced Matt Cucurullo defensively in the fifth inning, singled and stole second base. After Rosenblat took third on a wild pitch, he scored on a single by Julien.

The Rox lead extended to 4-0 when Rosenblat singled to score Eddie Gerald from second base in the top of the ninth.

In the bottom of the ninth, Rox starter Jon Koch struck out Zach Strong to start the inning. The strikeout was Koch's season-high eighth of the game. Keith Beauregard singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Danilo Renoso reached on an error by Julien. After Alex Nunez singled to score Keith Beauregard, Koch left the game with a 4-1 lead.

With all of the Rox bullpen arms unavailable due to a high number of innings logged earlier in the series, Rox manager Ed Nottle turned things over to starter Grant Dorn. Lucas Taylor laid down a bunt single to load the bases for Worcester. With the left-handed Josh Beauregard coming to the plate, Nottle brought in Kevin Beavers. Without any other available pitchers, Nottle sent Dorn into left field replacing Eddie Gerald. Josh Beauregard hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Renoso and make it 4-2. With two outs, and right-handed Omar Pena coming in to pinch hit, Nottle brought Dorn in from left field. Beavers exited the game, Julien moved from shortstop into the outfield, and Shawn Abel entered the game to play shortstop. Dorn got Pena to pop out to first base ending the game.

Koch (4-3) picked up the win pitching 8.1 innings and giving up two runs, one earned, on seven hits. Alex Pena (4-3) was saddled with the loss. Dorn picked up his first save of the season.
