New Jersey Jackals News Release
LITTLE FALLS, N.J.-New Jersey lost a close game to the Quebec Les Capitales by a score of 6-4 at Yogi Berra Stadium. The Jackals could not overcome the six runs Quebec scored off of Jackals' starting pitcher Joe Orloski, who fell to 4-4 on the season. New Jersey had ten hits but stranded eleven baserunners in the game.
The Quebec Les Capitales tied the game in the top of the second inning and took the lead for good in the top of the fourth inning when Eddie Lantigua and Lee Delfino both hit RBI singles. The team added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning, as Geoffrey Tomlinson hit an RBI single to bring the score to 6-1 in favor of Quebec. Tomlinson ended the day 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Buck McNabb also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Jake Whitesides recorded his first hit as a Jackal, an RBI single in the sixth inning to score New Jersey's second run of the game. New Jersey threatened again the bottom of the seventh inning as Darryl Brinkley hit his second RBI single of the game to bring the score to 6-4 but New Jersey failed to score any more runs. Brinkley went 2-for-5 in his Jackal debut with two RBIs. Zach Smithlin went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Orloski pitched eight complete innings, allowing five earned runs. Quebec starting pitcher Marty Janzen pitched six innings, allowing only two earned runs, improving his record to an impressive 5-1 on the season. Quebec closer Christian Mendoza pitched a perfect ninth to record his sixteenth save of the season.
The Jackals look to snap a small, two-game losing streak tomorrow night as veteran pitcher Joel Bennett will take the mound for New Jersey. Danny Prata is the expected starter for Quebec.
