New Haven County Cutters News Release

For the third consecutive week, a New Haven County Cutters player has been named Can-Am League Player of the Week, with first baseman Bill Peavey taking the batting honors for the week of July 25-31. He continues this streak of weekly dominance started by pitcher Jarrett Stawarz before the All-Star break and followed up by outfielder Derrick Gibson.

Pitchers were hard pressed to keep the former USC standout and Cleveland farmhand off the bases this past week. He batted .462 (12 for 26) with two doubles and three home runs and reached safely more than half the times he got up to hit (.565 on base percentage). His six RBIs over the last seven games give him 48 for the season, fourth in the league and most in the two-year history of the Cutters.

New Haven County went 5-2 for the week, taking three out of four against North Division first half champion Quebec Les Capitales in a series that ended Sunday.

The Batter of the Week award caps off an impressive month for the lefty slugger. In July, Peavey posted a batting average of .388 (38 for 98), hit five home runs and drove in 20 runs. He is hitting .326 for the year.

Peavey's offensive numbers sometimes overshadow his important work defensively for New Haven County. With only three errors committed all season, Peavey has been a vacuum at first base, gobbling up balls hit his way and bailing out teammates by scooping errant throws.

The Cutters host to the Can-Am Grays Monday and Tuesday nights at 7:05 and Wednesday morning at 11:05 at Yale Field. Tickets for the games are available online at www.CuttersBaseball.com, over the phone at 203-777-5636 or by visiting the Yale Field box office.
