Morse Named Pitcher of the Week

Lynn, MA.--SportsTicker, the Can-Am League's official statistician, has named North Shore LHP Bryan Morse its pitcher of the week, for the week of July 25-31.

In two outings this week, Morse went 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA in 17 innings of work. He allowed only three earned runs on ten hits and three walks, striking out twelve. Morse pitched a complete game shutout of Elmira on July 31, holding the Pioneers to just four hits and one walk while striking out seven in the Spirit's 7-0 win.

Morse, 27, was drafted by the Florida Marlins out of Mount Olive (NC) College in 1999. In 14 starts for Utica of the NY-Penn league in 1999, Morse went 3-5 with a 3.45 ERA. He appeared as a reliever for Kane County of the Midwest League in 2000 and for Brevard County of the Florida State League in 2001. In 2002, he went back to starting for the Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs of the Northeast League, sporting a 7-5 record with a 1.99 ERA. He joined North Shore in 2003, where opponents hit only .256 against him, and led the Spirit with a 10-4 record and a 2.50 ERA in 2004. This season, Morse is 9-2 with a 2.49 ERA. He leads the Can-Am League in wins, ERA, complete games, shutouts and innings pitched.
