North Shore Spirit News Release

Little Falls, NJ - The North Shore Spirit rode an amazing performance by starting pitcher Matt Bishop to their first win at home in 2007 season, as they defeated the New Jersey Jackals 3-0.

The Spirit used a Jackals' miscue in the bottom of the second to pick up their first run. Sandy Madera couldn't handle a throw from shortstop Joe Mihalics, allowing Carlos Rodriguez to reach. He eventually scored on Mike Torres' fielders choice. And in the next inning, North Shore extended to a 2-0 lead thanks to Darren Blakely's two-out, RBI single. Despite adding another run in the eighth on Tim Sabo's balk, the Spirit wouldn't need it thanks to an amazing effort from Matt Bishop.

Bishop entered the game with a 0.77ERA and left with a 0.46 ERA, as he baffled the New Jersey bats, from beginning to end. He lasted eight innings, allowing no runs, on seven hits, while walking one and striking out three. Despite the almost non-existent ERA, it was his first win of the season.

Josh Brey suffered the tough luck loss, despite only allowing two runs, one of them earned in six innings pitched. He surrendered only four hits, with one walk, and five strikeouts.
