Skyhawks Fall to New Haven, 17-6
June 6, 2007 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Sussex Skyhawks News Release
After an extra inning win last night, the Sussex Skyhawks failed to string together a win streak as they fell to the New Haven County Cutters 17-6 Wednesday afternoon. Despite the Skyhawks scoring 6 runs, the game got out of hand in the 7th inning when the Cutters tacked on their final 3 runs to put the game out of reach at 17-1. The Skyhawks would tack on a run in the 7th and the 8th and finish the night with a 3 run ninth, but the comeback was no use as the Cutters took game 3 of the 4 game series.
The Cutters scored multiple runs in 5 of the first 7 innings as they strolled to a victory at Skylands Park. Junior Zamora went 3-7 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI's. Back up catcher Matt Hackney went 2-5 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBI's. Despite the Cutters offensive break through they ended up leaving 14 men on base. In total 31 batters reached base safely.
The Skyhawks offense showed signs of life as Ron Perodin broke out of his slump going 2-5 as well as BJ Richmond who went 2-3 with a RBI and run scored. Jabe Bergeron's bat continued to be hot as he went 2-5 with 2 RBI' s.
The Skyhawks pitching was disappointing following a great outing by Edisbel Benitez on Tuesday Night. Ryan Lobban went only 2 innings while allowing 4 runs on 6 hits. Trey Stephens picked up a large portion of the earned runs as he went 2 innings allowing 8 runs on 6 hits. As for the Cutters Ryan Bonesio gave the team 7 solid innings only allowing 2 runs on 7 hits.
Ryan Lobban picks up his third loss of the 2007 season while Bonesio earns his first win moving to 1-1. The Skyhawks look to pick up the forth and final game of the 4 game series on Thursday night when they send Vince Davis to face opposing pitcher Joslin Ramirez.
