Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, MA (June 6, 2007) - OF Jeremy Coronado ripped a two-out, two-run single off the right-field wall to score PR Donavon Hendricks and RF Matt Maloney, giving the Rox a thrilling come-from-behind 5-4 victory over the Worcester Tornadoes before 1,420 at Campanelli Stadium.

While Brockton had just two hits in the first eight innings, the Rox sent seven men to the plate in the ninth and Coronado's game-winner plated the tying and winning runs in a four- run frame.

Rox starter RHP John Kelly allowed four runs (two earned) in eight innings in a no-decision, while RHP Luis Carreras picked up his third win of the year out of the bullpen. The Rox improve to 8-5 with the win while the Tornadoes fall to 5-8.

Worcester struck for two runs against Kelly in the second frame, capitalizing on two Rox errors. 3B Yuvi Solano plated two with an RBI single, and Kelly faced a bases loaded, no outs jam with two runs already home.

However, the veteran right-hander worked out of the situation, keeping the game 2-0 Worcester. The Rox didn't have a hit off Tornado starter RHP Matt Weagle until 1B Francisco Lebron singled in the fourth inning, and only managed their first run in the seventh when Lebron doubled and scored on a pair of groundouts.

With two outs in the top eighth frame, Tornado RF Andrew Wishy launched a two- out, two-run HR off Kelly, extending the Worcester lead to 4-1.

The lead looked safe.

In the first 22 innings of the series, the Rox managed just one run on 12 hits. In the ninth with one out, DH Guye Senjem singled off Weagle. Lebron bounced what looked to be a game- ending double play grounder to Worcester SS Bobby Tewksbary, who bobbled the baseball and failed to record an out.

After a wild pitch put runners at second and third, C Jason Radwan lifted a high fly to shallow center field that fell between three fielders for an RBI single, putting the Rox behind 4-2. RHP John Birtwell replaced Weagle and Hendricks replaced Radwan on the bases. RF Matt Maloney hit a check-swing grounder to the third baseman Solano, who bobbled the baseball for the second Tornado error of the inning.

A Birtwell wild pitch made it 4-3, as Lebron trotted to the plate from third and the Rox had runners at second and third with one out.

Birtwell fanned 3B Fredy De La Cruz for the second out. With the Rox behind one in the ninth with the tying run at third and go-ahead run at second, Coronado's line drive went over Wishy's head, plating Hendricks and Maloney, and giving the Rox their most exciting win of the year.

Thursday, the Rox and Tornadoes play for the final time in 2007 at Campanelli Stadium, as Brockton tries to earn a series split. RHP Gary Galvez (1-1, 4.26 ERA) starts for the Rox against Worcester's RHP Alex Pena (0-1, 9.00 ERA) at 7:05 PM.
