
Rox Score 17 Runs in Win over Thunder Bay

St. Cloud, MN - A 14-run fourth inning for St. Cloud (17-11) at the plate proved to be the difference in the series opener against Thunder Bay (11-17) as the Rox won by a final score of 17-3. The Rox have now won five consecutive games and nine of their last ten.
After falling behind 2-0, the Rox claimed their first lead of the game in the bottom of the third inning. Garrett Delano (Brown) singled into right field and scored Jack Kelly (Northwestern) and Zack Elliott (Minnesota). Brady Harlan (Oklahoma) scored the other run on a wild pitch.
The Rox proceeded to score fourteen runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. It was highlighted by a Kelly grand slam over the right field wall and Hance Smith (California-Berkeley) hitting a bases clearing double. St. Cloud went through 18 batters in the inning.
All starters in the lineup recorded at least one hit in the win. Ben Carew (Kent State), Delano, Smith, Kelly and Elliott all had a multi-hit game. Smith and Kelly both drove in four runs.
On the mound, RJ Martinez (Minot State) earned his fourth win of the season after tossing six strong innings. Blake Stelzer (Concordia-St. Paul) and Kevin Davis (USC Upstate) both saw action on the mound out of the bullpen.

St. Cloud will be back at home on Wednesday against the Thunder Bay Border Cats for the series finale with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. It's Faith in Action Night that will feature a pre-game youth baseball/softball clinic presented by Fellowship of Christian Athletes, YMCA and Northland Capital Financial Services.
