
Woodchucks Find a Variety of Ways to Reach Base and Beat the Chinooks

WAUSAU, WI - Whether they were scoring on an error, walking, stealing, or driving in runs with base hits, the Wisconsin Woodchucks put up runs on the Lakeshore Chinooks. The Woodchucks diverse scoring led them to win by a final score of 4-2.
The scoring started early in the first inning when the Chinooks drove in a run with a double to left field. The Woodchucks responded by scoring two runs of their own and taking the lead. The Chucks were able to quickly load the bases. The Chinooks shortstop committed an error that allowed Javier Rosario to score from third. Then, the Chinooks walked a run home. This made the score 2-1 with the Woodchucks leading.
The Woodchucks entered the game leading the entire Northwoods league in stolen bases with 87. The Chucks continued running in this game with a double steal in the third inning. The Chinooks overthrew third on the throw, allowing TJ Reeves to score. This gave the Woodchucks a 3-1 lead.
The Woodchucks continued to put men in scoring position throughout the game. In the fourth inning, Kenny Rodriguez walked to first and advanced to third. Javier Rosario later stepped to the plate and hit a ball sharply to the Chinooks third baseman, who threw to third and allowed Rodriguez to score from third. This gave the Woodchucks a 4-1 lead.
Beau Nichols made his fifth start on the mound for the Woodchucks. He tossed seven strong innings, allowing only one run on four hits. Nichols walked zero and struck out four. Maddux Solomon came on in relief in the eighth inning. He loaded the bases and allowed one run to make the score 4-2 with the Woodchucks leading. Solomon exited and let Tom Ambrosino finish the inning. Ambrosino worked out of the bases loaded jam cleanly and kept the Chinooks from scoring. This allowed Woodchucks closer Lenny "Ice" Gwizdala to come on in the ninth and secure a Woodchucks victory with a final score of 4-2.
Top Performers

Relief pitcher Tom Ambrosino entered the eighth inning to a bases loaded jam. He was able to work out of it cleanly and keep the Chinooks from scoring. This allowed Woodchucks closer Lenny "Ice" Gwizdala to come on in the ninth and secure a Woodchucks victory.
Javier Rosario led off for the Woodchucks and drove in a run. He also walked once and represented one of the Woodchucks runs.
