
Rox Hold Lead to Defeat Wisconsin Rapids 5-4

Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. - The St. Cloud Rox and the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters were back at it Tuesday night finishing up their two game series together as the Rox took game two for the sweep by a final score of 5-4.
In the top of the first the Rox would get the inning going as Devin Pearson hit a triple on one out and scored on a single by Adam Martin for a 1-0 lead. Luke Weber singled and Daniel Comstock loaded the bases as he earned a walk on seven pitches. A sacrifice fly out to right field by Chris Paul took the Rox to a 2-0 lead over the Rafters scoring Martin on the play.
Wisconsin Rapids brought the game within one in the bottom half of the inning off a double taking a 2-1 game into the second inning.
The Rox continued to extend their lead in the second as Dustin Breshears led off the inning hitting his first home run of the season taking a 3-1 lead. Blake Headley and Clay Williamson would follow, each hitting a single. Pearson hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Headley making it a 4-1 game.
Both teams put up a run in the third as the Rox scored off a single by Chris Paul in the top half and in the bottom half of the inning the Rafters scored on a sacrifice fly to right field making it 5-2.
Jay Flaa came into the game relieving Jason Hoppe in the fourth as he took three up and three down from the Rafters striking out two.
Wisconsin Rapids brought the game within two as a double in the bottom of the fifth would put a runner in scoring position and then score on another double with two outs.
In the bottom of the eighth the Rox would make another pitching substitution as Reese Gregory came into the game relieving Flaa from the mound. Wisconsin Rapids brought the game within one scoring off a double to trail the Rox 5-4.
Adam Maxon came into the game in the eighth facing one batter to close out the inning for the Rox. Maxon came back to finish out the game as the Rafters were three up and three down to fall to the Rox by a final score of 5-4.
Hoppe pitched three innings on the mound for the Rox striking out five batters and recorded the win. Flaa saw four innings of work on the mound also striking out five batters, while Gregory saw 2/3 of an inning and Maxon saw 1.1 innings for the save.
The St. Cloud Rox (29-29, 15-8 Second Half) now head to La Crosse, Wisconsin to take on the La Crosse Loggers in a two game series Wednesday and Thursday before returning home. Game times are slated for 7:05 p.m. both days.
The Rox will return home Friday for a three game home stand as they welcome the Rochester Honkers Friday and Saturday and the Willmar Stingers on Sunday.
