
Blue Anchors Lose Tough One to Loggers

La Crosse, Wis. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors fell to the La Crosse Loggers by a score of 10-0 at Copeland Park Tuesday night. The Anchors are now 9-14 in the second half and 19-38 overall.
The Loggers jumped to an early lead as they scored two runs in each of the first two innings against Corey Fitzgerald. In the first, he allowed a two-run homer to Michael Katz. Bobby Juan came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Chris Keck in the second to make the score 3-0. Then with two outs, Nick Day scored on a base hit by Mike Nadratowski putting La Crosse's lead to 4-0.
In the fifth, the Loggers got back on the board. Eric Toole and Nadratowski singled to start the frame and both moved into scoring position after a wild pitch. A Kevin Zak sacrifice fly brought home Toole and Nadratowski scored on an error by shortstop Andrew Sohn. Katz, who reached on an intentional walk and was eventually moved to third, came around to score on a balk and make the score 7-0.
Against reliever Andy Johnson, who finished the fifth inning, the Loggers added on. Austin Rei led off with a walk and went to second on a groundout and advanced to third on a passed ball. A single by Nadratowski brought home Rei to increase the Anchors' deficit to 8-0.
Ross Slaney gave up two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Rei hit a solo homer to start the inning and after the next two batters singled and went into scoring position on another passed ball, Katz drove in one with a groundout to short putting La Crosse up 10-0.
Fitzgerald (0-7) took the loss going 4.1 innings allowing seven runs on seven hits and three walks with two punch outs. In 1.2 innings of work, Johnson gave up a run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Slaney finished the evening with two innings pitched and two runs allowed on three hits and a strikeout.
Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game - Aaron Gretz (C) - There were not many bright spots for the Blue Anchors as they were held to two hits. Gretz had one of those hits and saw his average raise to .268.
Notes: The Anchors offense was held to a season-low two hits...This is the third time in 2013 Alexandria has been shutout...Dale's hit streak came to an end after 15 games...Albert Baur kept his hitting streak alive and it's now at 12 games...Johnson has recorded a strikeout in seven straight appearances...The Blue Anchors continue their road trip Wednesday as they get set for a two-game series with the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters...Starting the first game of the series is RHP Tyler Beck (1-5, 4.84)...The game, starting at 7:05 p.m., can be seen live at www.youtube.com/user/NorthwoodsLeague.
