Thunder Bay Border Cats News Release

The Border Cats socked five home runs as they crushed the Wisconsin Woodchucks 14-7 Tuesday night at Athletic Park in Wausau. First baseman Tyler Duplantis (Nicholls State University) hit an 8th inning grand slam, his second bases loaded shot in four games. Duplantis set new single season team records for home runs (9) and runs batted in (46), breaking the previous mark of eight home runs and 45 runs batted in set by Dan Soukup in 2003. Matt Mangini also drove in 45 runs in 2005. The native of Thibodaux, LA., went 2-5 at the plate as the Cats upped their second half record to 6-17.

Dylan Becker (Missouri State University) also had a big night as he hit a pair of three-run homers, giving him seven on the season. Becker has hit four home runs in his last four games. Dylan Goodwin (Central Michigan University) connected for a solo shot in the 4th inning that put the Cats ahead for good 4-3. Becker then added his second homer later in the inning to put Thunder Bay up 7-3. Newcomer Adam Collins hit a two-run homer in the 9th inning in his debut. The freshman infielder from Central Michigan University signed with the Cats earlier in the day.

Jordan Church (Sam Houston State University) had his best start of the season to earn his first victory. Church (1-5), pitched seven innings and allowed six hits. The righthander gave up four runs (one earned run), with one walk and four strikeouts. The Cats also turned a triple play in the second inning as Rob Bennie of the Woodchucks lined out to third baseman Jason Vosler (Northeastern University) with two runners on board. Vosler then fired to second baseman Becker, who then relayed over to Duplantis to complete the triple-killing.

The Cats tour of the South Division continues tonight when they open a two-game series in Eau Claire against the Express. First pitch is scheduled for 7:35pm ET.
