Round Rock Express News Release

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Luis Hernandez's leadoff homer sparked a three-run 10th inning as the Round Rock Express defeated the Nashville Sounds 8-5 in Monday afternoon's series finale at Herschel Greer Stadium. The Express (23-29) won consecutive road games for the first time since April 23-24 at New Orleans. The teams split the four-game series.

Hernandez delivered his first homer since April 28, ending a 117-at-bat drought. Mike Bianucci capped the inning with a one-out, two-run double. Tanner Scheppers worked a perfect bottom of the 10th for his eighth save. Aaron Heilman (1-0) recorded the final two outs of the ninth inning and was credited with the win.

Hernandez's homer was Round Rock's third solo shot of the day in a back-and-forth game. Matt Kata led off the game with his fifth of the year. Nashville (21-29) plated two runs in the third, and the teams traded two spots in the fourth. Ryan Spilborghs tied the game 4-4 with a two-out RBI single.

That score held until the eighth when Brad Nelson delivered a one-out solo homer, his third straight game with a round-tripper. Nashville tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Andy Gonzalez bounced into a first-and-third double play.

Kata was 3-for-5 with a double, while Spilborghs was 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Bianucci was 2-for-5 with a double and four RBI, and Nelson scored twice.

Derek Hankins made a spot start and worked two scoreless innings, allowing one hit with one strikeout. Ben Snyder pitched the next two innings and surrendered four runs on five hits and a walk with one strikeout. Mark Hamburger worked two scoreless innings and was followed by Johan Yan, who surrendered the game-tying run in the eighth. John Gaub tossed two-thirds of a scoreless inning before giving way to Heilman.

Jim Henderson (3-2) did not record an out in the 10th inning after working the eighth and ninth innings and was charged with the loss; he surrendered four runs on four hits with two strikeouts. Starter Claudio Vargas yielded four runs on six hits and two walks over four and two-thirds innings with one strikeout.

Sean Halton (2-for-4) and Caleb Gindl (2-for-4) produced Nashville's lone multiple-hit games; Gindl hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning.

Round Rock begins a four-game series Tuesday against the Memphis Redbirds. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CDT at FedEx Field in Memphis.
