Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Albuquerque, N.M. - For the second straight game, the Albuquerque Isotopes (30-22) scored 11 times and fought off a late rally by the Oklahoma City RedHawks (28-23) to win 11-9 before 7,992 at Isotopes Park Monday afternoon.
With the loss, the RedHawks dropped the final game three games of the series and went from a 1.5 games ahead of the Isotopes to 1.5 behind them for first place in the American Southern division.
The RedHawks got off to a good start with a solo homer by Angel Sanchez in the first. The lead was short-lived, though, as Albuquerque scored three runs in the Isotopes first at-bat. Josh Fields tied the game with an RBI single, and Matt Kemp blasted a two-run homer to make it 3-1.
Landon Powell knocked an RBI single in the second to get the RedHawks back within one and extend his hitting streak to nine games.
Albuquerque rallied for four runs in the third to take control. Jeff Baisley hit an RBI double, and with two outs, pitcher Derrick Loop drew a bases loaded walk and Matt Angle hit a two-run single.
The RedHawks were able to get back into the game with a three-run fourth, including a two-run, two-out double by Brad Snyder to make it 7-5.
The Isotopes got one run back in the bottom of the inning when Juan Rivera collected an RBI single to put Albuquerque ahead by three.
The offenses slowed thereafter until the eighth. The RedHawks put runners on second and third with none out, but could only score one run after an RBI groundout by J.B. Shuck.
The Isotopes seemingly put the game away in the bottom of the inning when Brian Cavazos-Galvez connected on a three-run homer to make it 11-6.
For the second straight day, the RedHawks rallied in the ninth to get within two and bring the tying run to the plate. Carlos Corporan and Brian Bixler each drove in a run and a wild pitch score another. However, the rally fell a bit short, as Brandon Barnes flied out center field to end the game.
Albuquerque starting pitcher Mike Parisi left the game with injury in the second inning, leaving it up to the Isotopes bullpen to go the rest of the way. Shawn Tolleson (1-1) earned his first victory by tossing two scoreless innings.
Aneury Rodriguez (2-5) took the loss after lasting just three innings. He surrendered seven runs on seven hits and five walks.
After going 6-6 on the road trip, the RedHawks begin a 12-game homestand Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Nashville Sounds. Tickets are available through the RedHawks box office, by calling (405) 218-1000, or online at okcredhawks.com.
Live coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on AM 1340 The Game, 1340thegame.com, or through the free IHeartRadio app on your mobile device.
