Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Collin DeLome scored the winning run on Chris Davis' throwing error as the Round Rock Express scored three runs without recording an out in the ninth inning to defeat the Oklahoma City RedHawks 3-2 in Tuesday night's series finale at The Dell Diamond. The Express (55-76) snapped an eight-game losing streak against the RedHawks (69-60), who won 13 of 16 meetings on the season.
Round Rock entered the game 1-62 when trailing after seven innings and 1-57 when trailing after eight innings. Both scenarios were in play Tuesday as Oklahoma City broke a scoreless tie with two runs in a wild top of the sixth.
However, each of the Express' first five batters in the ninth reached safely. Brian Bogusevic started the rally with a single; Chris Shelton and Collin DeLome followed with consecutive walks to load the bases. Shelton and DeLome both were 0-for-3 with three strikeouts before their ninth-inning walks. After German Duran was hit by a pitch to force home Bogusevic, Edwin Maysonet tied the game with a single through the left side to score pinch-runner Matt Kata.
That set the stage for Brian Esposito's plate appearance. Esposito grounded sharply to Davis at first; however, Davis' throw home was wide of the plate, and DeLome slid under catcher Kevin Richardson's tag.
It was Round Rock's 12th victory in its final at bat this season and fourth this month. The Express also snapped a five-game losing streak at The Dell Diamond, their longest home skid of the season.
Shane Loux (5-11) was the beneficiary of the ninth-inning rally, winning his third straight decision after 10 straight losses. Loux allowed two runs, only one of which was earned, on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Brian Moehler worked 3.0 scoreless innings in a rehab start; he allowed one hit with one strikeout.
Tanner Scheppers (1-2) took the loss for the RedHawks; he pitched a perfect eighth before allowing all three runs in the ninth. The rally spoiled a strong start from Guillermo Moscoso, who struck out nine against one walk and three hits in 6.0 scoreless innings. Clay Rapada worked a scoreless seventh with one strikeout.
Oklahoma City scored two runs on two hits in the top of the sixth. James Tomlin opened the inning with a single and moved to second on a passed ball. After Esteban German's sacrifice bunt pushed Tomlin to third, Willy Taveras delivered an RBI single. Taveras then stole second and advanced to third when Esposito's throw to second skipped into the outfield. After Davis walked, Taveras scored when Davis was caught trying to steal second.
The game featured no multiple-hit outings as the teams combined for nine hits and five errors. Each team was 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
Round Rock begins its final road trip of the season Wednesday, opening a five-game series against the Memphis Redbirds. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CDT at AutoZone Park. Left-hander Andy Van Hekken (7-6, 4.02 ERA) is slated to start for the Express, while right-hander Lance Lynn (11-9, 4.96 ERA) will go for the Redbirds.
