Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
The Fresno Grizzlies picked up a 3-1 series win over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox with a 10-1 victory on Tuesday night at Security Service Field in front of 6,532 fans.
Kevin Pucetas (5-7) picked up the win after turning in a great performance. He tossed seven innings and gave up nine hits but only surrendered one unearned run. Steve Edlefsen and Craig Whitaker each worked a scoreless inning in relief to preserve the win for the Grizzlies.
Offensively, the Grizzlies knocked out 11 hits on the night with eight of them coming against Sox starter Alan Johnson (10-8). Johnson tossed six innings and gave up seven runs but only three of them were earned as shortstop Chris Nelson committed two costly errors behind him.
Catcher Steve Holm finished the night with three RBI to lead Fresno and Emmanuel Burriss and Jesus Guzman each chipped in two RBI of their own.
The Sky Sox continue their home stand tomorrow night as they welcome division rival Salt Lake to town for a five-game series. Game one will feature LH Josh Muecke (5-7, 5.37) for the Sox opposite RH Fernando Rodriguez (4-5, 5.74) with first pitch set for 6:05 PM.
NOTES: With two singles in the game, Sky Sox outfielder Matt Miller now has 118 singles on the season which now ranks as the second highest total in a single season in Sky Sox history. Miller passed Wayne Kirby who had 117 singles in 1992 when the Sox were affiliated with the Cleveland Indians. Next up for Miller is Neifi Perez who holds the all-time Sky Sox record of 133 singles in 1996. Alan Johnson celebrated his 27th birthday today and although he picked up the loss he did drive in the Sky Sox' only run of the game with an RBI single in the second inning.
