Rough 1st Inning Too Much for Missions

CORPUS CHRISTI--The Hooks chased Missions starter Johnny Hellweg in the first inning and withstood a late San Antonio rally in winning the third game of the four game series Monday night at Whataburger Field.

Hellweg lasted only 2/3 of an inning, making it his shortest career start in the minor leagues. The right-hander, who returned to the mound less than a year ago following Tommy John surgery, is 1-4 with a 10.97 ERA in six starts.

The Missions scored three times in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 6-5 before J.D. Davis slugged a two-run homer in the eighth to pad the lead.

Nick Torres collected an rbi single and rbi triple in the loss.

Hooks pitchers fanned 14 Missions, bringing their three-game series total to 34. San Antonio has struck out 75 times in the last seven games while managing 44 hits.

NOTES: OF Yeison Asencio was promoted to Triple-A El Paso. A corresponding roster move will be announced on Tuesday...The Missions have lost 13 of the last 15 and are tied with Portland in the Eastern League for the worst record in Double-A
