Cordell Crushes Two Homers in One-Run Win

FRISCO, TEXAS - Ryan Cordell's two home runs led the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, to a 6-5 win over the Midland RockHounds Monday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

Cordell's second home run was the difference-maker for the RoughRiders. The Riders (23-7) broke a 5-5 tie with his solo blast to begin the bottom of the fifth inning. It was the eighth home run of the season for Cordell, who is now tied for second place in the Texas League.

The first home run of the game for Cordell was a two-run shot that capped a five-run second inning for Frisco. The Riders tallied their runs on just three hits in the frame to jump ahead 5-1. Alberto Triunfel delivered a two-run single to give the Riders an initial lead and scored on Isiah Kiner-Falefa's RBI single.

David Perez (1-0) was the first man out of the bullpen and pitched two scoreless frames, earning the win in his third outing with the Riders. For the second consecutive game, a Frisco reliever retired nine batters in a row, as Jose Leclerc kept Midland in check for three straight innings and struck out four.

Jose Valdespina set down the RockHounds in order in the ninth to earn his first save of the season. The Riders are 11-for-12 in save situations this season.

Yairo Munoz had a multi-homer game for the RockHounds (18-13). His first one was a solo home run in the second, and his second home run drove in three runs to tie the game at 5-5 in the third. Midland scored four runs in the inning to knock Riders starter Richelson Pena out of the game early.

The Riders wrap up their four-game series against Midland, the second-place team in the Texas League South division, Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Frank Lopez (3-0, 3.86 ERA) will make the start for Frisco against Raul Alcantara (2-1, 5.53 ERA) for the RockHounds.
