August 4, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
Anderson Rosario was a double short of hitting for the cycle as the Kernels tumbled to their third straight loss, 7-3, at O'Brien Field in Peoria on Thursday night.
Rosario finished the night 3 for 4 with a triple, home run and two RBI. His three hits accounted for one third of the Kernels nine hits in the game. Kernels starter Robert Mosebach (8-6) struck out eight, but gave up nine hits and four runs over seven innings of work.
Since rejoining the Kernels lineup on July 27, Rosario has raised his batting average from .190 to .310 and is batting .444 (12-27) with 2 HR, 6 RBI and 7 runs scored.
Big innings have been the bane of the Kernels on this road trip as the Chiefs pounded out five hits and four runs in the second inning to take a 4-1 lead. The Kernels closed the gap to 4-3 with two runs in the sixth as Mark Trumbo drove in Hainley Statia on a sacrifice fly and Anderson Rosario drove in Dallas Morris on an RBI single
The Chiefs put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the eighth off relief pitcher Darren O'Day using five hits and a solo home run by Ryan Norwood.
Anthony Ortega (1-3) will take the mound tonight as the Kernels try and avoid the sweep. Lefty Jesus Yepez (4-6) starts for the Chiefs. Game time is 7 pm and can be heard on the internet at www.kernels.com
The Kernels return home to Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday to open an eight-game, nine-day home series with the Lansing Lugnuts and Wisconsin TimberRattlers. The eight games feature two fireworks nights, a jersey giveaway and the Kernels wearing pink jerseys on Oncology Associates Cancer Awareness Night on August 10th.
Tickets for all eight games can be purchased on-line at www.kernels.com
