Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING - The Swing of the Quad Cities scored eight times in the 12th inning to break a scoreless tie en route to an 8-0 extra-inning win over the Lansing Lugnuts before 8,821 fans at Oldsmobile Park Friday night.

The Swing's 12th inning rally began when Mark Hamilton singled to right and moved to third on an error by Zack Kalter. After Tyler Greene grounded out, the Lugnuts elected to intentionally walk both Bryan Anderson and Daniel Nelson. Chad Gabriel was then hit by a pitch, which allowed Hamilton to score to make it 1-0. Daryl Jones then singled to left-center to plate Anderson and Nelson to make it 3-0.

Shane Robinson was then hit by a pitch to reload the bases for the Swing. Casey Rowlett's two run single extended the lead to 5-0. Hamilton added an RBI single and Anderson smacked a two run double to finish the scoring and give the Swing an 8-0 lead.

The two teams had dueled to a scoreless tie through 11 innings, with each pitching staff escaping a threat.

The Lugnuts had several opportunities to take the lead in the game. Yuber Rodriguez singled to center field in the fifth, but Anthony Garibaldi was thrown out at home by Robinson to keep the game scoreless.

Lansing had another chance to take the win in the 11th when it got runners to second and third with no men out. However the Swing's Scott Vander Weg worked himself out of the jam with a flyout, a strikeout and a foul out.

The Swing had runners at the corners in the sixth frame, but left the man stranded when a fielder's choice ended the inning.

Scott Vander Weg (8-2) got the win for the Swing, tossing two innings and allowing just two hits.

Ted Serro (0-2) suffered the loss for the Lugnuts. He allowed all eight runs to the Swing after throwing 3 1/3 innings.

Lansing (57-52, 17-25) will open a four game set on Saturday in Cedar Rapids against the Kernels. Casey McKenzie (0-4, 5.16) will take the mound for the Lugnuts, while Tommy Mendoza (8-6, 4.32) will hurl for the Kernels. First pitch is set for 8:00 p.m. EST.
