SOUTH BEND, IN - Joel Roa came through with two key hits as the Whitecaps came from behind to win a 14-inning battle, 4-2 in South Bend. The Whitecaps catcher not only guided the Whitecaps pitching staff to 11 consecutive scoreless innings, but tied the game with a single in the seventh then broke the tie with a two run single in the fourteenth.

West Michigan is 7-4 in extra innings thanks to the bullpen, which retired 20 batters in a row to finish game.

South Bend started the season 9-1 in extra inning games, but has dropped their last three to fall to 9-4.

Burke Badenhop started for the Whitecaps and threw six innings with two runs allowed on six hits with a walk and five strikeouts. Matt Rusch pitched two innings of relief and allowed a hit and a walk.

Rusch started the streak of 20 in a row with the last two batters he faced. Ricky Steik then threw three perfect innings, followed by two innings from Jose Fragoso, who earned his first win as a Whitecap.

Fragoso also pitched five shutout innings of relief during Oneonta's New Tork-Penn League record 26-inning win over Brooklyn.

Orlando Perdomo retired the Silver Hawks in order in the bottom of the fourteenth to earn his Midwest League-leading 27th save.

Matt Joyce led off the second inning with a double for the Whitecaps. He moved to third on a wild pitch by Silver Hawks starter Anthony Cupps and came home on a sacrifice fly by Mike Hernandez to put West Michigan on top, 1-0.

South Bend tied it in the bottom of the second when Bryan Byrne scored on a double by Steve Mena. Byrne drove in a run in the third on a single as the Hawks moved ahead, 2-1.

Both Hernandez (0-for-5) and Pedro Cotto (0-for-7) played the entire game for the Whitecaps but each had seven game hitting streaks come to an end.
