Providence Bruins News Release
Springfield, MA - The Providence Bruins blanked the Springfield Falcons 4-0 Saturday evening at the MassMutual Center to sweep the Falcons in the two-game preseason series. The P-Bruins had goals from Adam Presizniuk, Yannick Riendeau, Calle Ridderwall, and Everett Sheen.
The P-Bruins and Falcons picked up right where they left off last night from last night's barnburner at the New England Sports Center, of which the Black and Gold came out with a 3-2 overtime win. Tempers flared in the early minutes with the P-Bruins going on a seven-minute power play after Springfield's Chaz Johnson was sent to the box for roughing, fighting, and a misconduct. Providence was quick to capitalize on the man-advantage with rookie Presizniuk recording his first professional goal at 10:55. Jamie Tardif and Jamie Arniel added the helpers on the play. The P-Bruins weren't finished and less than a minute later Riendeau found the back of the net off a feed from Arniel giving the P-Bruins a two goal lead going into the first intermission.
Providence spent the opening minutes of the second period on the penalty kill, but Springfield's extra man proved fruitless as Ridderwall broke through the Falcon's defense and buried his second shorthanded goal in as many nights. The P-Bruins' power play unit continued to prove to be too much for the Falcons as Sheen lit up Allen York at 11:09 off a pass from Ryan Button to give Providence a 4-0 lead.
Despite quality scoring opportunities, Providence's offense was unable to find the back of the net in the final frame. Danny Taylor, who relieved Michael Hutchinson between the pipes midway through the second, continued to stalwart any Springfield scoring opportunities in the third frame and secured Providence's 4-0 win and two-game sweep of Springfield.
Hutchinson blocked all 16 Springfield attempts for the win. Taylor stopped 14 shots in 28:33 between the pipes. Springfield's York suffered the loss, stopping 20 of 24 Providence attempts.
Providence opens the regular season at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Friday, October 7 in a 7:05 tilt against the St. John's IceCaps.
