
Rivermen Win Preseason Finale in 16-Round Shootout

The Peoria Rivermen ended their preseason exhibition schedule with a 3-2 shootout win over the Rockford IceHogs on Saturday at the BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford, Ill. With only one goal for each team in the first 15 rounds of the shootout, rookie defenseman David Shields netted the game-winner in the 16th round.
Danny Syvret recorded a goal and an assist and finished with three points in two preseason games. Peoria finished their exhibition schedule 1-1-0 after dropping a 3-2 decision to Chicago on Friday night in Peoria.
Peoria scored the only goal of the first period, at 10:04, when Tyler Shattock deflected a Stefan Della Rovere wrist shot past Alec Richards.
Both of Rockford's goals came on the man advantage as they finished the game 2-for-5 on the power play. Andrew Shaw tied the game at 7:00 of the second period and Brandon Segal gave the IceHogs the 2-1 lead at 2:29 of the third.
Syvret's game-tying goal came at 10:17 of the third frame with Jay Barriball and Brett Ponich earning asssits on his shot from the blue line.
The game featured two fights. Peoria's Chris Bruton and Rockford's Kyle Beach fought just 23 seconds into the game while Peoria's Brett Ponich and Rockford's Rob Flick dropped the gloves at 10:56 of the second.
Jake Allen played the entire game for Peoria and finished with 25 saves on 27 shots and stopped 15 of 16 in the shootout. Alec Richards made 21 saves in regulation and 14 in the tie-breaker.
