The Rome Braves jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning and held on for a 6-3 win over the Lexington Legends Friday night at Applebee's Park.

The Braves scored six times on only two hits in the first inning. After Kyle Rose popped out to lead off the game, a hit batsman, three consecutive walks and another hit batsman produced two runs. Chris Curley's infield out drove in another run, and a two-run single by Braeden Schlehubler made the score 5-0. After Zach Grimmett relieved Legends' starter Juan Minaya, Matt Weaver's ground rule double down the right field line scored Schlehuber with the sixth run of the inning.

Lexington scored a run in the bottom of the first. Jose Altuve reached on a throwing error by Weaver, the shortstop. Miguel Arrendell singled, sending Altuve to second. When the runners attempted a double steal, catcher Schlehuber's throw to third went into left field, allowing Altuve to score.

The score remained 6-1 until the bottom of the seventh. Jiovanni Mier led off with a single, and with two outs, scored on Altuve's double. Altuve came home on a single by Arrendell. J.D. Martinez followed with a single, and Kody Hinze walked to load the bases, but with the tying run at first, Rome reliever Thomas Berryhill retired Jake Goebbert on a grounder to second to end the inning.

Rome starter Brett Devall (4-5) worked six and two-thirds innings to get the win. Berryhill picked up his fourth save. Minaya (2-8) was the losing pitcher.

The two teams will play Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at Applebee's Park.
