SALISBURY, MD -- The Lakewood BlueClaws made the most out of a two-run 5th inning Friday night in game two of a doubleheader, beating the Delmarva Shorebirds (Orioles) 2-1 in a shortened seven inning affair.

Reliever Josh Zeid made his first start of the season, combining with Eric Massingham (1-1) and Ebelin Lugo to hold the Birds (0-2) to just one run on three hits.

Offensively it took until the 5th for the BlueClaws (2-0) to get a hit against Shorebirds starter Nathan Moreau (2-3), but Lakewood took full advantage of their limited opportunities stringing together four hits in a row to open the scoring.

With two outs Kyle Lafrenz doubled, and scored on a Stephen Batts single. Jiwan James then doubled in Batts to give Lakewood a 2-0 lead.

Delmarva picked up a run in the 6th on a Tyler Townsend RBI groundout, but Massingham and Lugo retired then next four batters to end the threat.

Saturday at 6:35 pm RHP Jarred Cosart (7-2, 3.44) makes his 14th start of the season against Delmarva RHP Kenny Moreland (3-2, 2.78).
