
Greenville Again Rallies Past Charleston, 3-1

CHARLESTON, SC - A two-run seventh inning by Greenville broke a 1-1 and led the Drive over the Charleston RiverDogs, 3-1, in front 4,859 fans in South Atlantic League action at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park Friday night.
With the victory Greenville climbs to 2-0 in the second half and 38-34 overall. Charleston drops its sixth consecutive game, falling to 0-2 in the second half and 31-40 overall.
Charleston led 1-0 into the sixth inning, when Ronald Bermudez's two-out RBI single off Charleston reliever Kelvin Perez (3-5) knotted the score at 1-1.
The Drive broke the stalwart in the top of the seventh, when Reynaldo Rodriguez's groundball was booted by Charleston and plated Shannon Wilkerson, giving Greenville a 2-1 lead. Derrik Gibson's sac fly to left brought Rodriguez home, boosting the Greenville lead to two runs at 3-1.
In his first relief outing since 2009, Perez allowed two runs on two hits in 1.2 innings with two walks and one strikeout.
Pedro Perez (5-3) earned the win in relief for the Drive, tossing 3.0 shutout frames, while All-Star reliever Dennis Neuman retired the side in the ninth for his ninth save of the year.
Greenville starter Manuel Rivera threw 2.0 innings of hitless ball before Kyle Higashioka launched a 0-1 pitch over the scoreboard in left field. The Huntington Beach, Calif. native's second home run in as many nights - and fifth of the season -- brought the score to a 1-0 Charleston lead going into the fourth.
Charleston starter Josh Romanski threw 5.1 innings of scoreless ball in the no-decision, surrendering just two hits. The former University of San Diego Torero fanned a career-high eight hitters and walked three. The Corona, Calif. native has allowed no earned runs and surrendered just three hits, with 12 strikeouts, in his last two starts at Riley Park, spanning 11.1 total innings.
Kelvin Castro had the only multi-hit game of the contest, going 2-for-2 with a double. Charleston's 1-4 hitters went a combined 0-for-15 with four strikeouts.
Game three of this series is Saturday at 7:05 p.m., with Charleston pitching right-hander Jose Ramirez (2-4, 3.44) and Greenville countering with right-hander Kendal Volz (4-2, 3.39).
