Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
One day after starting the second half of the season on the right note, the Kannapolis Intimidators take a step back with a 9-3 defeat to the Augusta GreenJackets at home on Friday night. The Intimidators, who opened the second half of the season with a win are now even with one win and one loss.
The game began the same way as it did on Thursday with the GreenJackets (1-1) scoring first in the second inning with one run off Justin Collop who started the game for the Intimidators (1-1). However, unlike yesterday, the Intimidators had no answer and it was 1-0 after two.
The scoring continued for the GreenJackets off Collop (4-6) who struggled in his five innings today as Tommy Joseph would bat twice with the bases loaded, in the third inning and the sixth inning and score two with one swing of the bat on both. Collop went five innings and allowed nine hits, five runs, three earned.
Down 3-0 in the third, the Intimidators opened their account on the night as Jake Oester led the inning off with a double, followed by a hit by pitch to Zach Kayne's leg, putting two on with one out. Jordan Cheatham then singled, one of three hits, to score a run and another came in on an RBI-groundout by Rafael Vera to make it a 3-2 ballgame.
Jorge Bacardo (8-2) started the game and allowed three runs in six innings, just the second time this season he allowed more than two runs in a start as the Intimidators worked another home un the sixth, but it was far too late by then.
After Collop exited, Matt Wickswat allowed four runs on five hits, recording just two outs as the GreenJackets built a 9-3 lead in the top of the sixth inning, which is how the game ended.
The loss is the 15th in 21 games for the Intimidators who are now even in the second half and the margin of win breaks a streak of 11 straight games where a save was recorded.
Joe Serafin will go for a team-high seventh win on Saturday in an attempt to put the Intimidators back above .500. Andy Reichard will make just his fourth start of the season looking for his first win. The game will begin at 7:05 pm and conclude with post-game fireworks.
