Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Kannapolis, NC - The Augusta GreenJackets rattled out 14 hits, including four doubles that provided five runs, in a 9-3 victory over the Kannapolis Intimidators on Friday night.

The Jackets led early and never trailed, picking up a run in the first on a bases loaded groundout by Ryan Lollis and two more in the second on a bases loaded double by Tommy Joseph that gave Augusta a 3-0 lead. On four separate occasions the GreenJackets sent hitters to the plate with the bases full, going 2-4 at the plate with five RBI's in the situation.

Kannapolis threatened to make a game of it in the third inning, scoring twice off Jorge Bucardo after two hits and a hit batsman. Two fine plays on slow rollers to shortstop Ydwin Villegas and the ensuing picks at first by Luke Anders on low throws from Villegas got Bucardo out of the inning with no further damage though and a one-run lead.

In the fourth inning, the GreenJackets got five straight hits that led to a pair of runs as Augusta began to build their lead. Evan Crawford and Ryan Cavan drove in both runs on back-to-back doubles. The sixth inning put the game on ice for Augusta though, drilling five hits off Kannapolis pitching in a four-run frame. Joseph's second bases-loaded hit, a two-run single, was the catalyst for the effort while Crawford's second double and a Cavan single provided the other two runs.

Bucardo allowed an Ian Gac RBI single in the sixth to close the gap to 9-3, but the Intimidators would get no closer. Despite pitching on a night where his stuff didn't seem to be its sharpest, Bucardo survived six innings and allowed three runs on five hits. Bucardo (8-2) struck out three while winning his sixth straight start.

Kannapolis starter Justin Collop (4-5) took the loss allowing five runs - three earned - on nine hits and a walk while striking out three. Augusta relievers Chris Gloor and Mitch Lively struck out six over three scoreless innings to wrap up the win for Bucardo.

The middle game of the five-game series sees a pitching matchup of Andy Reichard (0-0, 3.27) for the GreenJackets against Joe Serafin (6-4, 3.29) of the Intimidators. First pitch will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
