Rockets To Host Royals For Fan First Menu Game Tomorrow
October 24, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kelowna Rockets News Release
The Kelowna Rockets will be looking to push their win streak to four games on Wednesday when they host the Victoria Royals on Wednesday night at 7:05 pm at Prospera Place.
The Rockets opened their weekend on the road against Tri-City on Friday. After getting goals from Michael Cicek, Jackson Gillespie and Tij Iginla, the game was tied at three after three periods of play. The two headed to a shootout following five minutes of overtime. Tij Iginla and Andrew Cristall were successful shooters for Kelowna in the shootout, where Jari Kykkanen only allowed one goal on three shots.
The next night in Kelowna welcomed the Vancouver Giants for their first meeting of the season where the two got into a seesaw affair of trading goals and leads, in the end the Rockets held on to win the game 6-5.
FAN FIRST MENU GAME
It will be a Fan First Menu night with $2 hot dogs and $5 beer Lucky Lager. The Fan First Menu is available at all Monday to Wednesday regular season games.
STREAKING ROYALS
The Royals have won their last four games. Most recently they hosted Spokane for a pair of games on the island over the weekend, where they came back to tie the game up in the third period and won in overtime both nights.
THE LAST TIME THESE TWO MET
The Victoria Royals outlasted the Kelowna Rockets 9-7 in a high-scoring affair in a Thanksgiving Monday matchup at Prospera Place earlier this month.
After scoring the opening goal Victoria found the back of the net three times before Kelowna responded towards the end of the opening frame. With the lead cut in half, Victoria once again scored three unanswered goals in the second frame before answering back with their lone goal of the period. The Rockets and Royals traded goals early into the third period, Kayden Longley and Tij Iginla then drew the Rockets back within one before Ben Riche scored back-to-back goals to complete a hat-trick.
