Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release
MCALLEN, TEXAS - The NBA Development League Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that Houston Rockets guard Jermaine Taylor (6-4, 210, Central Florida) has been re-assigned to the Vipers.
Additionally, the Vipers acquired guard Kenny Hasbrouck (6-3, 194, Siena).
Taylor was first with the Vipers from January 28-through-February 4, averaging 21.8 points and 4.0 rebounds in four games (one start).
"Continuing Jermaine's development is imperative for the Rockets and the opportunity for him to play and play consistent minutes in order to work on his overall game with the Vipers is another step in that direction. His first experience with the Vipers was a productive one and our goal for him is to build on it and to continue his progression. We know Jermaine will be in good hands with [Vipers head coach] Chris Finch and our staff," said Rockets Vice President of Player Personnel Gersson Rosas, who is also the General Manager of the Vipers.
A two-year captain with Siena, Hasbrouck led the Saints to first round NCAA Tournament upsets as a junior (83-62 over #4 Vanderbilt in 2008) and as a senior (74-72 in double overtime over #8 Ohio State). In 129 games and starts during a four-year career, the 23-year old averaged 14.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.9 steals per game. He shot 40.7% from the field and 37.3% from behind the arc.
After earning a Siena-record eight MAAC Rookie of the week awards during the 2005-06 season, Hasbrouck was named MAAC Rookie of the Year. He was a MAAC All-Tournament Team selection the following year, Siena College Male Student-Athlete of the Year as a junior, and earned AP All-American honorable mention as a senior. Hasbrouck graduated in third place on Siena's all-time scoring list with 1,918 points.
"Kenny is a rookie guard with a good pedigree. He can play both the point and shooting guard positions, is a good defender and has a clutch-shot making ability," Finch said.
Hasbrouck takes the roster spot of guard Russell Carter (6-4, 200, Notre Dame), who was waived on Tuesday.
