Springfield Armor News Release
SPRINGFIELD, MA - The visiting Reno Bighorns defeated the new look Springfield Armor, 124-123, Friday night at the MassMutual Center. A crowd of 3,330 saw Tony Bobbitt, Kyle McAlarney, and Noel Felix make their debuts for Springfield just days after arriving in trades. All three scored in double figures and JamesOn Curry scored 31 points but Desmon Farmer poured in 41 of his own to lead the Bighorns to the victory.
All three new acquisitions started for the Armor but Springfield fell behind 14-4 to start the game as they struggled to get acclimated with the offense. The rust wore off quickly, though, as Springfield finished the first quarter on a 22-11 run. Reno bounced back in the second quarter with a 21-10 run of their own to take a ten point lead midway through the quarter. DJ Strawberry came off the Reno bench to score 13 points in the first half and lead the Bighorns to a 60-52 lead at the halftime break.
Springfield wasted no time getting back in the game as they rattled off a quick 10-0 run to start the third quarter. Armor sub Dante Milligan contributed four points during the run. JamesOn Curry nailed back-to-back three pointers and Bobbitt added one as well late in the third quarter to give Springfield a 79-72 lead.
The lead swung back and forth during the fourth quarter, with Reno leading scorer Desmon Farmer and Curry trading shots down the stretch. Reno finally broke free as Farmer couldn't be stopped, leading the Bighorns to a late nine point lead.
Springfield had one more run in them, though, as Bobbitt hit a corner three to bring the Armor back within a point with just over a minute to play and then nailed another one from the same spot to tie the game with 50 seconds remaining. After a Doug Thomas dunk put Reno up 122-120 on the other end, Bobbitt hit his biggest shot of the night - another three pointer to give Springfield a one point lead with only 26 seconds left. But Will Blalock converted a layup on the end and Bobbitt was unable to draw rim on his final shot. Reno improved their record to 14-17 and Springfield fell to 5-23.
Bobbitt finished with 26 points and Felix had 17 points and 7 rebounds.
Springfield will take on Reno again tomorrow at 7 p.m. in their Health and Fitness Awareness Knight, proudly presented by Springfield College. Tickets are still on sale and can be purchased by logging on to www.armorhoops.com or by visiting the MassMutual Center Box Office. Box Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9-5, Saturday, 10 to game time.
