Red Claws Go Red For Women's Heart Health
February 19, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
Maine Celtics News Release
PORTLAND, ME - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, in association with the American Heart Association, are proud to announce the Red Claws will host Go Red for Women Night on February 24, as the Red Claws take on the Fort Wayne Mad Ants at 7:30 PM. The announcement was made by Maine Red Claws President and General Manager Jon Jennings.
Fans attending the February 24 game are encouraged to wear red to show their support for the American Heart Association and help raise awareness of heart disease in women. Heart disease is the number one killer of women over 20, with cardiovascular disease (CVD) killing approximately 460,000 annually. While 1 in 30 American women die of breast cancer, nearly 1 in 3 will die from CVD.
"Heart disease is certainly something that has touched the lives of numerous members of the Red Claws family," said Jennings. "We are proud of our commitment to community and are pleased to lend our support to the American Heart Association and their efforts to better the health and lives of women in Maine."
The Zumba Go Red Dancing Queens will perform at halftime, and volunteers from the American Heart Association will be on hand to conduct a 50/50 raffle with all proceeds to go to the Maine chapter. Fans who sign up to join the Go Red movement will also have the chance to win Jiffy Lube gift cards and some fun Go Red items. The Red Claws will also honor Jane Cleaves, a cardiac nurse who has served on the American Heart Association's Board of Directors since its inception, as a TD Bank Homecourt Hero.
"We appreciate the Maine Red Claws' support to help spread life-saving health messages to Maine women and their families at this game," said Carrie Fortino, Executive Director of the American Heart Association in Maine. "Without partners like them and wonderful volunteers, our organization could not reach as many people as we do to help prevent heart disease and stroke."
The Red Claws will look to rebound from a tough loss to the Tulsa 66ers Thursday with back-to-back road games in Rio Grande Valley this Saturday and Sunday. The team will return to Maine to take on the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on February 24 and 25. In addition to Go Red Night on February 24, February 25 will be Crusher's Birthday Party Night as mascots from throughout the state will be on hand to help celebrate Crusher's first birthday. The Red Claws franchise was officially awarded and announced on February 25, 2009. Tickets remain for both games and may be purchased by calling 207-210-6655 or online at www.maineredclaws.com.
