Kamloops Blazers News Release
The Kamloops Blazers (17-12-3-1) fell short in a 2-1 loss to the Kelowna Rockets (26-9-1-0) on Sunday night at home.
The Blazers enjoyed four first period power plays, but lost defenseman Dallas Valentine in the process. He was checked from behind and left the game late in the first period.
Nick Chyzowski got the Blazers on the scoreboard late in the period on a power play.
He scored on a rebound off a shot from Garrett Pilon as the Blazers held a 1-0 first period lead.
The Rockets came out strong in the second period and tied the game with a goal 4:22 into the frame.
Joe Gatenby made a terrific cross ice pass to Kole Lind and he one-timed a puck past goaltender Connor Ingram to make it 1-1.
Both teams traded chances in the period as Matt Revel was robbed by a post and the game remained 1-1 going into the final period.
The Rockets took the lead for the first time in the game with 11:10 to go. Kole Lind fed the WHL's leading scorer, Tyson Baillie in front of the Blazers net and Baillie scored his 24th goal of the season.
The Blazers pressed back and had their chances with Matt Revel unable to score on a breakaway and defenseman Ondrej Vala hitting the post.
In the end, the Rockets held on for a 2-1 victory over the Blazers.
Jackson Whistle earned the win with 25 saves, while Connor Ingram took the loss making 28 saves.
The Blazers were 1-for-5 on the power play, while the Rockets were 0-for-1.
The Blazers and Rockets will play once again on Monday night as the Blazers travel to Kelowna to finish the home-and-home set.
