Everett Silvertips News Release
VANCOUVER - Patrick Bajkov buried both Everett Silvertips goals but the Vancouver Giants ripped off four unanswered goals and benefited from two assists each by Trevor Cox and Chase Lang to defeat the Silvertips, 4-2 before 5,089 fans at Pacific Coliseum on Sunday.
The Silvertips ended a seven-day layoff and had their four-game road winning streak come to an end, outshooting Vancouver 34-31. Ryan Kubic made 32 saves for Vancouver and counterpart Carter Hart, who has started all but one game this season, made 27 stops.
Bajkov opened the scoring with 45 seconds remaining in the first period when he crashed the net and tapped Graham Millar's post-to-post feed past Kubic's right pad for a 1-0 cushion.
Vancouver leveled the score on Ty Ronning's 10th goal of the season, a tic-tac-toe finish from Carter Popoff and Cox, at 8:37 of the second period and followed up on Matt Barberis' power play goal for a 2-1 lead at 10:54. Chase Lang deflected a shot off traffic from the right side and Barberis, initially stationed at the left point, raced to the loose puck and buried a shot under the crossbar.
Just one shift later, Owen Hardy's second goal of the year extended Vancouver's lead to 3-1 at 11:20 when his sharp-angled shot fooled Hart's blocker side from the base of the left circle.
Alec Baer slammed a rebound past Hart for a 4-1 lead with 3:59 left in regulation, but the Silvertips made one final attempt to rally on Bajkov's second goal of the game, 12 seconds later when he slipped around the Vancouver defense and beat Kubic on a snapper from between the circles.
On the next shift, Graham Millar and Dawson Leedahl crashed the net looking for a rebound but misfired on two partially open-net chances. The Silvertips failed to score after pulling Hart for an extra attacker with two minutes remaining, and Vancouver trimmed the Silvertips' lead in the season series to 3-2-0-0.
