ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the New York Islanders, will honor retired captain Stefan Rivard with a special pre-game ceremony, culminating in the raising of his #21 to the rafters at Historic Boardwalk Hall, prior to the start of their scheduled 7:05PM game on Friday against the Trenton Titans.
Rivard played seven of his nine professional seasons with the Boardwalk Bullies and the Birmingham Bulls, the longest tenure of any player in organizational history. He finished his career last year following the Bullies playoff series defeat at Peoria as the club's all-time leader in goals, assists, points, and penalty minutes. The New Liskeard, ON native recorded three final milestones in 2003-04 by notching his 1,500th penalty minute, tallying his 400th point, and playing in his 500th career game.
Rivard recorded 188 goals, 261 assists, 449 points, and 1,635 penalty minutes in 543 career games.
In honor of the Bullies longtime captain, the first 2,500 people through the gates on Friday will receive a special commemorative Stefan Rivard autographed poster.
In other news, the Bullies have signed free agent rookie defenseman Brett Peterson to a contract. Peterson, 23, played 157 games over a four-year collegiate career at Boston College where he tallied 8 goals and 28 points. The Northborough, MA native attended training camp with the Charlotte Checkers before being released on October 21.
Opening Weekend 2004 at Historic Boardwalk Hall is just around the corner as the Bullies battle heated rivals Trenton at 7:05PM on Friday, October 29 and Reading at 7:05PM on Saturday, October 30. Individual game tickets for the 2004-05 season are currently on sale and can be purchased anytime by calling Ticketmaster at 1-800-736-1420 or by visiting the Boardwalk Hall box office Monday-Saturday from 11AM-5PM.
