Fresno Falcons News Release
Team Signs Jaeger, Releases Betz & Paradise, Trades for Two Forwards
Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons did not sit idle after failing to capture a point in the standings during the first weekend of play in the 2004-05 ECHL season. Moves made today by General Manager Blaine Moore include the signing of rookie goaltender Brett Jaeger and the release of goaltender Mike Betz and right winger Chris Paradise. Moore also swung two separate trades with the Dayton Bombers and Idaho Steelheads for forwards Lanny Gare and David Brisson, respectively. Both deals were in exchange for cash.
Jaeger recently participated in Fresno's training camp on a professional tryout agreement and made an impression with his strong play during intra-squad scrimmages as well as a 52-save performance during the team's pre-season, 4-3 shootout loss on Oct. 16 against the Bakersfield Condors. The 21-year old rookie from Manning, Alberta, earned the Alberta Junior Hockey League's MVP Award last season while playing for the Drayton Valley Thunder. He also spent two full years in the Western Hockey League in 2001-02 and 2002-03 for the Vancouver Giants and Saskatoon Blades, respectively.
Gare was a teammate of Falcons defenseman Kevin Truelson on a University of New Hampshire club that made back-to-back Frozen Four appearances in 2002 and 2003. He played the majority of his rookie campaign last year with the Quad City Mallards of the United Hockey League, posting 53 points (18g-35a) and 72 penalty minutes in 60 games played, and appeared in nine games for the American Hockey League's Hershey Bears. Gare has recorded one point this season, scoring a goal in Dayton's 6-3 loss to the Toledo Storm on Saturday.
Brisson is also a second-year player and spent his collegiate career at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, where he registered 144 points (65g-79a) in 159 games over four seasons. He, too, split time between the UHL and AHL during his rookie campaign, playing 33 games for the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins and 11 contests for the UHL's Muskegon Fury. Brisson appeared in one game for the Steelheads this past weekend and did not register a point.
In addition to releasing Betz, who took the loss in Fresno's 5-0 setback against the Victoria Salmon Kings on Sunday, and Paradise, who recorded one assist in three games for the Falcons, the club also officially signed left winger Wes Rypien to a contract. Rypien previously had been placed on bereavement leave and did not play in any of the team's three games this past weekend.
Single-game tickets for this Friday, Saturday and Sunday's three games against the defending Kelly Cup Champion Steelheads at Save Mart Center are now on sale for as low as $8 per seat. Tickets may be purchased directly at Save Mart Center's box office and all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 485-TIXS (8497) or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
