June 7, 2023 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Appleton, Wis.- The Rockers lost the I-41 Showdown at Neuroscience Group Field for the second year in a row, dropping this game to the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders 5-4.
Starting on the mound for Green Bay was Cole Peschl (Charleston). This start was his second appearance on the mound this season, with his first being an eight-strikeout night against Wisconsin Rapids.
Peschl excelled on the mound in Wednesday night's matchup, pitching six consecutive scoreless innings after allowing one earned run in the first. His final numbers on the night through seven innings pitched were 5 hits allowed, one earned run, one walk issued, and seven strikeouts.
Fond du Lac would jump out to an early lead in this game after a Rockers error. After an overthrow on a stolen base attempt and an RBI-groundout, Fond du Lac led this one 2-0 after the first inning.
Green Bay would respond in the top of the third inning, tying the ball game at two apiece. Left fielder Adam Paganelli (Northwest Nazarene) hit a one-out double ahead of an RBI single off the bat of Kyle West (Charleston). A few pitches later, center fielder Jojo Jackson (Georgia State) barreled an RBI triple to the right-center gap, making the score 2-2.
The next four innings would be highlighted by scoreless frames from both pitchers. Through the seventh inning, Peschl had seven strikeouts for the Rockers and Logan Eisenbarth (UW-Whitewater) had four for the Dock Spiders.
The Rockers then put a string of baserunners together, as both Brady Miguel (CSU-Monterey Bay) and West were in scoring position with two outs in the top of the eighth. Then with a full count, Jackson was able to deliver a two-RBI single, putting the Rockers up 4-2.
Kevahn Ebron (CSU-Monterey Bay) relieved Peschl in the eighth inning. After Fond du Lac put together a base hit and a walk, a defensive blunder would put a runner across before Jacob Faulkner (Princeton) came in to pitch. One more run would come in on a sac-fly, but Faulkner would prevent further damage and the game was tied once again 4-4.
After getting one out, Faulkner gave up a double and was then relieved by Tyler Horvath (Case Western). Fond du Lac was able to load the bases and their left fielder Travis Strickler (Embry-Riddle Aeronautical) drew a walk to give the Dock Spiders a 5-4 walk-off win.
Jackson was able to increase his RBI total to 10 on the season after Wednesday night's three-RBI game. Peschl increased his season strikeout total to 15, tying Brett Sanchez (Belhaven) for the team lead.
The Rockers fall to 6-4 on the season but remain in a tie for first place in the Great Lakes West division. Fond du Lac improves to 3-7 but remains in last place.
Up next for the Rockers is their second home game of the season against the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. First pitch at Capital Credit Union Park is set for 6:35 p.m.
