June 21, 2024 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
ASHWAUBENON, Wis. - The Rockers secured a big 15-7 win in an offensive showcase against the Mud Puppies in game two of a double-header.
Minnesota started off strong with a five-run third inning. Three RBI singles sparked the Mud Puppies' offense run, with Teige Lethert's (UW-Milwaukee) starting their scoring with a two-RBI single. Payton Mansfield (Jacksonville State) managed to get an RBI of his own with a triple, making the score 5-2 at the end of the third.
The Rockers added one more in the fourth, but really found their rhythm in the bottom of the fifth. Taylor Shultz (Georgia State) had a sacrifice hit to start the scoring run. Sam Miller (Columbia) hit a deep single to center field which scored one run, and AJ Anzai (San Diego) was initially ruled out at home on a tag to end the inning. But the call was overturned and Anzai was ruled safe due to catcher infringement. Luke Moeller (Grand Canyon) wasted no time taking advantage of the second chance with a deep double to score the fourth and fifth runs of the inning, putting Green Bay up 8-5.
Moeller (Grand Canyon) came back in the seventh with his second 2-RBI double. Then Mulivai Levu (UCLA) hit his first home run of the season to score two more and extend his hitting streak to four games.
Taylor Shultz (Georgia State) came in to score on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth, and Sam Miller (Columbia) made it home on a sacrifice hit by Carson Hansen (Arkansas) extending the Rockers' lead to 8. Minnesota couldn't respond in the top of the ninth, and the game ended 15-7.
Green Bay will play their next game at Capital Credit Union Park tomorrow against the Battle Creek Battle Jacks. Lleyton Grubich will make his fourth start for the Rockers. This season he has 17 strikeouts in just 15.1 innings pitched.
The Rockers will also assume their alter ego of the Supper Clubbers for Friday's matchup. Join us for a fish fry and old fashions in the park during the game with fireworks following the contest.
