Rock Cats Downed by Reading before Sellout Crowd

NEW BRITAIN, CT - Reading outlasted the Rock Cats 4-2 before a sellout crowd of 6,907 fans at New Britain Stadium on Wednesday night. The Phillies took the series two games to one.

The R-Phils jumped out to a 1-0 when Michael Spidale led off the game with a double to center and scored on a double by Carlos Rivero. The Rock Cats tied the game with a solo homer by Mark Dolenc in the second.

Reading struck again in the fourth. With two outs, Chris Lubanski tripled to right and ex-Rock Cat Steve Singleton knocked him in with a line drive single into right field. The Rock Cats answered back in the fifth on Chris Parmelee's double to right that scored Joe Benson - who reached base on a throwing error by Rivero at third - to tie the game, 2-2.

The Phillies went ahead for good in the eighth when Lubanski grounded into a force out that plated Brent Clevlen, who led off the inning with a single. In the ninth, the R-Phils tacked on another run when Singleton scored on a base hit by Ozzie Chavez.

Rock Cats starter Bobby Lanigan scattered seven hits and struck out four in seven innings. He allowed two runs. Brett Jacobson (4-6) suffered the loss after allowing the go-ahead run in the eighth.

Michael Cisco (8-0) hurled 3 1/3 shutout innings in relief for Reading to pick up the win. Chris Kissock notched his first save.
