Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The B-Mets cracked three home runs and defeated the Erie SeaWolves 10-5 tonight at NYSEG Stadium. The victory capped Binghamton's second consecutive three-game series sweep and extended their winning streak to a season-best seven games.
Binghamton has won ten of their last eleven games and outscored their opponents 83-42 over that span. Tonight's win is their league-leading 15thin the month of August.
Things got off to a bumpy start for Robert Carson. The B-Mets starter handed out two walks and paid for it when Rawley Bishop singled home a run in the first inning.
The B-Mets responded quickly in their first turn at bat. Matt den Dekker sent the second pitch from starter Casey Crosby over the left field fence for his tenth home run of the season.
Binghamton took the lead for good in the second. Mike Fisher and Kai Gronauer started the rally with singles. Niuman Romero followed with an RBI single to center and Den Dekker capped the rally by squeaking another home run over the left field fence. The three-run shot was his third home run in as many at-bats, dating back to last night's game.
The B-Mets did not take their foot off the gas pedal. Gronauer launched a solo homer into the rail yard in the fourth and Eric Campbell drove in a pair of runs on a single in the fifth. Juan Lagares' single in the fifth extended his hitting streak to 14 games.
Crosby exited after allowing a season-high eight runs on eight hits over five innings. Rob Waite took over in the seventh and allowed three straight hits, capped by Niuman Romero's two-run double. Binghamton held a 10-1 lead through six.
Carson made the advantage stand. He shook off his rocky first inning and put up five straight scoreless frames. The lefty did not face more than four batters in any inning until the seventh.
Carson allowed a lead-off single to Michael Rockett and watched his night come to an end when he walked Brent Wyatt. Ricky Brooks entered and served up a three-run homer to John Murrian to cut Binghamton's lead to six.
Brooks put up a scoreless eighth and handed off to Rhiner Cruz in the ninth. The righty allowed a run on a walk and a run before inducing Justin Henry to ground out to end the game.
Carson collected his fourth win of the season, his first since July 25. Crosby was handed his sixth loss. Tyler Stohr tossed a perfect eighth to close Erie's pitching tab.
Binghamton (59-71) welcomes in the Altoona Curve for a four-game series starting tomorrow night at 6:35pm. The Mets also welcome in Jose Reyes, who will start a three-game rehab assignment with the B-Mets. RHP Jeurys Familia (4-3, 3.47) will take on RHP Matt McSwain (2-0, 3.94). The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show begins at 6:20pm on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
