R-Phils Still Own Second Place
August 24, 2011 - Eastern League (EL1)
Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The R-Phils entered play on Tuesday with a five-game win-streak on-the- line. Reading -- the hottest team in the Eastern League, had a hard-fought battle with New Britain on Tuesday, but in the end, fell to the Rock Cats by a score of 4-3 in 12 innings.
The loss by Reading made things even closer in the Eastern League Eastern Division. By losing to New Britain, the Rock Cats pulled to within a game of the R-Phils in the standings, and are now just five games back and in sole possession of third place. The R-Phils, however, still control second place. The two teams will conclude their series on Wednesday, before Reading returns home on Thursday for their final homestand of the regular season.
As for New Hampshire, they were hosting Trenton in game two of their three-game series. The Fisher Cats, who had lost four-straight games entering play on Tuesday, crushed the Thunder by a score of 9-1. The win for the Fisher Cats helped them have a little more room to breathe in the Eastern Division, as they now lead Reading by four games.
