IT'S A HARD KNOCK LIFE: Rochester's 9-2 loss Sunday afternoon marks their 11th-straight...starting pitcher RHP Franklyn Kilome gave up seven earned runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings of work...RF Donovan Casey and C Chris Herrmann provided the Wings with their only runs of the game; one from Casey who logged an RBI-walk and one from Herrmann's RBI single in the fourth...RHP Reed Garrett was the only Wings pitcher to not allow a run in the contest, throwing two innings scoreless in relief...RHP Cade Cavalli will get the start as the club looks to snap their 11-game skid in Columbus.
JULY MADE US CRY: Rochester finished the month of July with just seven wins (7-17), the fewest in the International League after dropping the series finale to Scranton Sunday afternoon...the club has lost 11-consecutive games, the longest losing streak in the International League this season...the Wings tie their longest losing streak since last season (8/31-9/11, 2021)...the last time Rochester lost 12-straight was 2010 (8/23-9/03)...the Baby Bombers had 14 homers in the sweep against the Wings, the most home runs Rochester has allowed in a series this year (prev. high: 11 at St Paul).
THE HERRMANNATOR: C Chris Herrmann went 1-for-4 with an RBI-single in the fourth...the RBI was Herrmann's second of the series...prior to the Scranton series, the former Miami Hurricanes' last RBI came on April 23 (at LHV, 16 games between RBI).
CAUGHT STREAKING: LF Josh Palacios went 0-for-4 as his hit-streak ended at an International League-best 18 games (prev. high: Nolan Gorman MEM, 16)...Palacios' 18-game hitting streak was the longest by a Wing since Danny Valencia had a 20-game streak in 2010...the former Auburn Tiger also ended his on-base streak at 31 games, the second-longest in the IL this season and the longest on the Wings squad since former Red Wing Drew Maggi reached base in 39 games in 2019 (6/21-8/9/2019).
JECKSSON, FLOOR-IT: 3B Jecksson Flores was 1-for-3 in the contest...the righty has now recorded a hit in eight-of-his-10 games since joining Rochester on June 30...Flores has a .290 batting average (9-for-31) with Rochester this year...five-of-his-nine hits have been for extra bases.
GARR-ET-TEED: RHP Reed Garrett was the only Red Wing pitcher to not allow a run on Sunday...the righty pitched two innings of relief in a ML-rehab appearance...Garrett has not allowed a run in three consecutive relief appearances and 7-of-8 with Rochester.
TWO TYPES OF PEOPLE: The last time Rochester and Columbus squared off was 6/18 - 6/20/2019, with the series splitting 2-2...the Clippers come into this game with a 56-42 record (second in IL-west) and are one of two teams (NSH) with 30 wins at home this season (30-17 at Huntington Park)...Columbus has an International League-best 102 run differential, in comparison to Rochester who has the third-worst run differential (-51) in the IL...since 1979, the Red Wings record against the Clippers is 223-251.
COMING IN HOT: RHP Cade Cavalli comes into the series against Columbus having not allowed an earned run in three consecutive starts (15.2 IP/0 ER in July)...the Nationals' top prospect is 2-1 with a 3.11 ERA in road starts (seven) with the club going 5-2 ...each of Cavalli's three homers allowed this season have come on the road...the righty has a 13.00 ERA in four career-series openers with Rochester (9 IP/13 ER) and has never tossed more than four innings in those outings.
