ROCHESTER, NY (July 31, 2022) - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (51-48) completed a six-game series sweep over the Rochester Red Wings on Sunday. Behind four homers, the RailRiders won 9-2.

For the second game in a row, Estevan Florial launched a leadoff homer in the first inning to give the RailRiders a 1-0 lead. It's the fourth time he's completed the feat this season, all occurring in July on the 2nd, 4th and 30th in addition to Sunday's leadoff big fly. Two batters later, Oswaldo Cabrera homered in his third straight game, becoming the first RailRider to do so in 2022. A 418-foot blast made it 2-0 out of the first inning.

SWB would add to their lead thanks to a Chris Owings RBI single in the second. Ronald Guzmán and Tim Locastro each brought home runs in the third for a 5-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Florial swiped second base for his 30th stolen bag of the season. He's the first RailRider to reach the 30 stolen base mark this season. Ken Waldichuk was solid through his first three innings, tallying six strikeouts through the first ten batters faced. He ran into some problems in the fourth, exiting with two outs and the bases loaded. Two of those runs would score to make it 5-2.

Guzmán would launch a three-run homer in the fifth inning for SWB. It was Guzmán's eighth hit of the series. Oswald Peraza hit his14th homer, a solo shot in the ninth inning for a 9-2 lead. Ryan Weber (3-2) was given the win for SWB after two shutout innings in relief. Fraklyn Kilome (1-2) was saddled with the loss. The RailRiders swept their second six-game series of the season.

NEWS & NOTES

FIRST THINGS FIRST - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders welcome in the Buffalo Bisons for a six-game series in their first set of August. The last time Buffalo came to PNC Field in late-June/early-July, the RailRiders swept the Bisons for the franchise's first ever six-game series sweep. SWB lost four-of-six at Sahlen Field back in April, their only trip there.

STOP STOP, HE'S ALREADY DEAD - With multiple Yankees trades, the RailRiders have lost three pitchers as of 3:00 PM on Tuesday. Ken Waldichuk and JP Sears were traded to the Oakland A's as part of a package for Frankie Montas and Lou Trivino. Additionally, Hayden Wesneski was traded to the Chicago Cubs for Scott Effross. Combined, those three pitchers had thrown a combined 180.1 of 841.2 innings this season for SWB (21.4 %). The Yankees also reportedly traded Joey Gallo to the Los Angeles Dodgers for RHP Clayton Beeter, who has been with Double-A Tulsa this year.

REMEMBER THE DAY - The RailRiders were swept in a doubleheader in Syracuse back on June 8 to fall to 19-36 on the season. Seventeen games under .500 was a season-worst, while the team found themselves in last, 15.5 games back of first place with a -70 run differential. Since then, the team has gone 32-12 while outscoring their opponents with a +86 run differential. They enter play on Tuesday three games back of first.

FLOING, FLOING, GONE - Estevan Florial led off Saturday's game with a solo home run. He then followed that up by leading off Sunday's game with a a solo homer. Florial has completed the feat four times this season, with all four coming in the month of July (7/2 and 7/4).

YOU'RE THE BEST, AROUND - The RailRiders finished the month of July with an 18-6 record, the best record in the month for any full-season team. The RailRiders finished their last series with 14 home runs, giving them 40 in the month of July, easily the most in any month this season. In April and May combined, SWB hit 39 as a team.

KEEPING UP WITH THE OSWALD(O)S - Oswald Peraza slashed .300/.371/.563 in July while Oswaldo Cabrera slashed .288/.393/.692. The two combined to hit 11-of-40 (Peraza 5, Cabrera 6) SWB homers last month. Cabrera has homered in three straight games, the first RailRider to do so in 2022.

RON'S GONE RIGHT - Since July 8, Ronald Guzmán has been on a 16-for-38 push (.421) with six doubles and two home runs over his last ten games. The seven games prior to this, Guzmán had gone 3-for-19 (.158) while striking out seven times.

THREW OFF HIS GROOVE - After going 13-for-14 in June, Estevan Florial stole just four bases in six tries in July.

STREAKY - Greg Weissert has not been charged with a run in eighteen straight appearances, the longest stretch for any RailRiders pitcher this season. This scoreless streak has lasted 17.1 innings... Josh Breaux has a thirteen-game on-base streak, every Triple-A game he has had a plate appearance in... Tyler Wade has an eight-game on-base streak... Oswaldo Cabrera has an eight-game hit streak that started on July 22. It is a season-best... Rob Brantly is on a five-game hit streak... Ronald Guzmán has a six-game hit streak, which is a season-best...

SLAMTON/WILKES-BREAUX - Josh Breaux keyed the offense with a grand slam on Saturday night as a part of a five-run third inning. It was the first grand slam the RailRiders had hit this season, with the last also occurring at Frontier Field courtesy of Oswaldo Cabrera on October 3, 2021.

FIRST TIME, LONG TIME - With Friday's doubleheader sweep, the RailRiders tallied a winning record (49-48) for the first time since April 13 when they were 4-3. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre had either an even or losing record for 107 days.

ON DECK - Wednesday is Waggin' Wednesday and $1 Hot Dog Night at PNC Field. Fans can bring their four-legged canine friends to the game, presented by Magic 93. $1 Dog Night is presented by Sahlen's Hot Dogs.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION - The New York Yankees (70-34) defeated the Seattle Mariners 7-2. Aaron Judge homered again. He has 43 on the season. Jose Trevino homered twice. Jameson Taillon takes the ball tonight against Logan Gilbert... The Somerset Patriots (60-35) vs Richmond Flying Squirrels game on Sunday was cancelled due to rain. Deivi García takes the ball tonight against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies at 6:05 PM... The Hudson Valley Renegades (50-45) lost 7-0 on Sunday against the Brooklyn Cyclones. Blane Abeyta struck out seven in five innings, allowing just one run on two hits. They face the Jersey Shore Blue Claws tonight at 6:05 PM with Yoendrys Gómez on the mound... The Tampa Tarpons (46-48) lost 8-6 to the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels on Sunday. The Tarpons won the series four games to two. Tyrone Yulie starts tonight as they host the Clearwater Threshers at 6:30 PM...
